Celebrate Style Icon Anna May Wong this Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today, we’re taking a look at one of our favorite vintage style queens, and very influential lady, Anna May Wong! With a career that spanned from the 1920’s to her death in the 60’s, Wong (1905 – 61) smashed through prejudices in a deeply racist 1920’s Hollywood. She became the first Chinese American movie star, and gained international recognition for her talent. While she was often cast in roles that perpetuated Asian stereotypes, she paved the way and made a crucial first step for many Asian actors in the movie world.

Apart from her talent, and important role in movie history, Wong was also a stunning style icon! We love how she mixed elements from both Chinese and American fashion. She created a truly unique and glamorous look. We’ve picked out some of our favorite looks below, and get some inspiration from the great Anna May Wong!

Happy Galentines Day! We Celebrate Female Friendships

Our most beloved Parks and Recreation is sadly ending its run this year. In its time, Parks has given many miraculous gifts to the world; Chris Pratt, Leslie Knope’s idealism, permission to Treat Yo’ Self, and Chris Pratt, to name but a few. I think the show’s most important contribution is that celebration of female friendship, only the best day of the year, Galentines Day! This February 13th, follow in Leslie’s footsteps and celebrate your best lady friends by kicking it, breakfast-style. Any holiday built on a foundation of delicious breakfast food is alright by me.

To celebrate, we’ve rhapsodized over some of our favorite female friendships, real, fictional and well, imaginary.

The beautiful friendship that started it all! We all need a friend like Leslie who will shower us with outlandish compliments and meaningful gifts.

They’ve known each other since they were both members of a Chicago based improv group. Now, they’ve each got an amazing sitcom to their name, they’re the best award show hosts in the business, and they have a new movie coming out this year. How do we get to be part of their gang?

Ilana and Abbi

If you haven’t had a chance to see Broad City, rectify that now. Ilana and Abbi are young, broke, and carefree in New York and having amazing adventures together. It’s rude, crude and hilarious, and these gals are the new best friends we want to get in trouble with. (The show is also produced by Amy Poehler so you may sense a theme here.)

Taylor and everyone you’ve ever wanted to be friends with

Taylor Swift’s Instagram feed is a portal into another world where all the coolest girls hang out together, having the most fun, and looking amazing. Emma Stone, Lorde, Tavi Gevinson, Lena Dunham, they’re all here. She’s got it figured out, that one.

Hillary and Meryl

This may have been a one-time encounter, but I like to imagine them hanging out, plotting to take over the world and solve all our problems. I, for one, welcome our new overlords.

Exciting Times as Circus visits Pure London!

Vintage Inspired Style at Pure London

We are just back from a whirlwind trip to the UK’s biggest and best fashion trade show Pure London. It has made us so excited for the year ahead! We traveled from Dublin to London to exhibit the Spring/Summer samples from our vintage inspired Circus range that you know and love. We also brought along our new leisurewear range Kyte, a laid back and casual line that you’ll be hearing more about very soon!

Circus is Growing!

We are always looking for ways to make the Circus range better for you. One of our goals of traveling to Pure London was to find other stockists for Circus, so that it is even easier for you to get your vintage inspired style fix. Thanks to our trip to Pure, traders in Belgium, Germany, Spain, Scotland and England will all now be stocking Circus! So keep an eye out for us in a town near you very soon!

Exciting collaborations!

We are also delighted to announce that we will be collaborating with one of our favorite online retailers Modcloth in the future. This will make it easier for our American customers to find their most adored Circus styles closer to home . Modcloth already stock some of our dresses, some of which are almost sold out they are so popular! We are greatly looking forward to seeing the results of this collaboration.

Vintage Valentines Style Inspiration: The Notebook

Valentines day is just around the corner and it got us thinking about our favourite romantic films. Classics like Dirty Dancing, Casablanca and Roman Holiday all made the list! All of these movies have given us some serious Valentines style inspiration as well!

The Notebook has to be one of the most romantic films of all time. Part of the appeal (apart from Ryan Gosling of course!) is the amazing 1930s and 40s outfits Rachel McAdam’s character Allie wears throughout the film. The blue dress from the poster is probably the most famous outfit from the movie, but some of the other outfits are equally gorgeous. Many of the dresses remind us of our own Ava (See them all here) and Ingrid dress (here) from Circus. They both have that easy to wear, everyday glamour that was so prevalent in 1940’s style.  What do you think? Perfect for a Valentines date!
