Vintage Inspired Looks from Carousel on Xpose

We caught ourselves on camera earlier this week on Expose! – did you see us? Ilovecarousel.com made it onto the small screen with some celebrity vintage inspired ‘get the looks’.  Our style is often compared to the likes of Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel and Imelda May to name a few!

The two celebrities chosen were the ever chic Alexa Chung and ladylike Kate Middleton who both have very different styles but do have one thing in common and it’s a love for vintage inspired style.

Alexa – who has been a poster girl for plaid and peter pan collars since she popped up on the celeb scene was a dream to dress.  We teamed our ‘Diane’ contrast top (which has just come back in to stock in a range of colours) with our  ‘Peggy’ check skirt.  This outfit super interchangeable and trans-seasonal which is very handy considering the dodgy weather we are currently having!  Add a Jumper and brogues to this and hey presto hello Autumn!

Our second outfit based on Kate Middleton is fit for a Queen (I am sorry, I had to!)  The ‘Ava’ swallow and clouds dress is back in-stock and boasts a very flattering shape.  We are throwing back to the fifties with this shirt dress and is an absolute dream to wear.  Curvy of straight it nips in at the waist giving a sensational silhouette.

How would you describe Kate Middleton’s style?

Effortless.

Simple.

Chic.

It’s all of that and more. She has a very classic style, using her long, slim figure to her advantage with clean lines and small prints.

Kate often goes for similiar silhouettes and familiar styles. These include wrap dresses, shirt dresses, polkadots, and earthy colours.

Expose had a feature yesterday, Thursday 23rd, inspired by K-Mids looks which featured this very appropriate Circus Polka Wrap Shirt Dress (E65), available at Carousel. What I love about this is it’s easy wearability and that it goes with everything. It was accessorised with 2 bags, the Classic Shopping Bag(E39) in a beautiful berry colour and the Bowling Bag (E49). If it’s a little breezy outside you can pair it with this Annie Anchor Cardigan (E59) with tiny anchor detail or if it’s sunny then top it off with these Jackie O style Kennington  Sunglasses (E19).

Steal her style: Kate Middleton edition

Kate Middleton has fully established herself as a style icon and all she had to do was marry a prince, easy.  Still, though her lifestyle is beyond the reach of most, her wardrobe isn’t, as she mixes designer names with high-street favourites making it accessible for everyone. Even if you can’t get your hands on the exact items she wears, it’s easy to borrow from her style.

Kate usually favours simple block colours and neutrals but when she wants to make a statement with a bold print, she knows simplicity is key. Simple shapes won’t distract, or detract, from the main attraction.

Here’s Kate in one of our favourite looks, a gorgeous simple sheath from Jonathon Saunders:

Kate went for a very vintage look but if you swap those accessories out for opaque tights and a great pair of ankle boots and you have a striking and modern outfit for work or an occasion.

Prints, well, they’re kind of our thing. We think this great wrap dress from the new Carousel collections hits all the right notes; a simple, flattering shape, a striking print, and a shot of vibrant green which Kate always looks so good in. http://m2.ilovecarousel.com/dresses.html

When she gets the chance to dress down, Kate, like most of us, sticks to her tried and tested skinnies. She knows that when you’re keeping it simple below, you can afford to have some fun on top. On a tour of North America she got in the cowboy spirit with this western inspired outfit:

We might suggest you lose the hat but pair this Carousel blouse with jeans and a blazer for a chic daytime outfit.

One of Kate’s most famous looks is this McQueen tennis dress:

Most of us don’t have Sarah Burton on call but we can definitely steal elements of this style. The pussy-bow is a perennial favourite and this black and white print dress with pussy-bow detail inverts the palette for a sophisticated alternative.
