With the first Academy awards show being held in 1929, the show has had a long and glittering past. There’s no denying that although the stars of today know how to wow with their glamorous attire, you just can’t beat the stars of old Hollywood. Their timeless elegance and style transcends fashion, and would look just as gorgeous on the red carpets of today. So take a look at our pick of vintage Oscar moments, and get in the mood for the biggest show of the awards season tonight!

Blue Jasmine: When Woody Allen Meets Cate Blanchette

If you’re a Woody Allen fan, like we are, then you’re probably pretty excited to see Blue Jasmine, the latest offering from the famed New Yorker. This time Allen has chosen the pristine and damn near perfect Cate Blanchett as his leading lady and we are already in awe of her beauty just from the film’s stills.

Liz Taylor shines on the Oscars red carpet

Awards season has arrived and we just love all the glitz and glamour that comes with this time of year. The Oscar nominations were announced this week and we are loving the Best Actress category. Three of the most stylish women in Hollywood, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence and Naomi Watts,  have received  nods from the Academy, as well as the youngest ever nominee, Quvenzhané Wallis, and the eldest, Emmanuelle Riva. We can’t wait to drool over this year’s red carpet style, so we’re looking back at some classic award fashion to gear up for the big show on February 24th live from the Kodak Theatre.

Jessica Chastain, who is up Best Actress for her role in the compelling Zero Dark Thirty, is quickly becoming a Hollywood fashion icon for her staggering sense of style. We loved her in Givenchy at the 2012 Golden Globes.
Naomi Watts has been sparkling on the red carpet since she broke out in David Fincher’s 2001 film Mulhollond Drive. Ms. Watts is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role as “Maria,” in The Impossible, an inspirational true life account of a family torn apart by the 2004 tsunami.  We adored her truly magical look at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Jennifer Lawrence has proved that she’s a whole lot more than “Katniss” from The Hunger Games. The 23 year-old actress could be taking home her first golden statue this year for playing “Tiffany” in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. She wowed the world in 2012 with her golden garb at The Hunger Games premiere.

The youngest actress ever to receive a nod from the Academy went to 9 year-old Quvenzhané Wallis for playing “Hushpuppy” in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Wallis hasn’t had much experience on the red carpet just yet, but we loved her in this sweet ballet dress at movie’s premiere.
Finally, 85 year-old Emmanuelle Riva earned a spot in the Best Actress category for her role as “Anne” in Michael Haneke’s critically acclaimed Amour. We loved the French actress in blue at Cannes last year.
We’ll definitely be throwing an Oscar party on February 24th to celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night. Just like the silver screen stars we’re already planning our outfits. Check out some of our ideas for our Oscar party and let us know which dress you think we should wear to watch the 85th annual Academy Awards!
